Day 16 in Nicaragua

7:30 am-

We got up and started our day with bacon and eggs. We got everything packed up and headed to our next destination or so we thought. We were about 20 minutes into our trip an came to water on the road. We thought it was shallow so we started across and realized it was really deep so we hurried and backed up. Luckily we did because about 30 seconds later this huge gush of water started down the river and it would have pushed our car off the road into the water. The water was rushing so fast, it looked like a mudslide. No one could pass, we set there for about 45 minutes thinking it would stop. Eventually we decided to try the other route out of the town we were in. An hour later we came to some police that checked our passports and made us turn around. They said our car would not make it on the road ahead. So we turned around again and went back to see what the river looked like. An hour later we got back to the river and it was worse, there were trees floating in it. So we called the Airbnb guy from the previous night to see if we could stay one more night and he reassured us that the water would slow down, just takes 3-4 hours after the rain. So we went to a little restaurant and ordered dessert and Fresca (our new favorite drink over here). Ben had a crepe and the kids had ice cream cones. We wasted about an hour there giving it time.

2:30 pm-

We got back to the river to check the water, it was way better but still too high. We watched local drive through it. We have learned with the roads over here in Nicaragua you need to have a 4x4, not a small car. We waited and kept seeing the water go down. Eventually about an hour and a half later we just decided to go for it. We made it without getting water in the car and started our journey to Granada.

6:00 pm-

We got all settled into our hotel and went walking down the street in search of food. The old looking buildings are so beautiful around here. I can't wait to take pictures tomorrow, the lighting was bad at night. We stopped at this little place called Nectar, the reviews were great on TripAdvisor. We had a really friendly waiter that keep playing around with the kids. We all ordered different things, I had mango chicken tacos with cabbage and mango salsa. Ben had chicken fajitas and the kids had chicken and cheese quesadillas. All of our food was amazing, best food we have had so far. Oh and there limonade was delicious, it's like lemonade but the use limes instead. After dinner we walked around and looked at all the different things to see.

8:00 pm-

We headed back to our hotel and let the kids play in the huge tub. They loved it, just wished they had bubbles.

Tomorrow we are going to explore the city and find somethings to do.
